This site was designed and coded entirely by me (Liam Ó Lionáird) from December 2018 to January 2019. It was written in HTML and CSS using the Atom text editor, and hosted online using Neocities. I am been designing websites from scratch for several years (I have won a school-level web design competition in the past) and each and every line of code seen here is homegrown—no templates used! My goal was to design a site with a unique look and design philosophy, while retaining the usability expected of any website.

A conscious design choice was made to use rigid, clean boxes for containing text and images, and solid colours instead of gradients/fancy graphics, giving the site a minimal, calming look. A sans-serif font was chosen for the text, which scales larger/smaller depending on which resolution you view the site in.

The site's menu bar, seen above, was made similarly minimal to allow easier transport from page to page; using CSS's 'flexbox' system, it also scales responsively to allow easy viewing on mobile devices. (On a computer, try resizing the browser window to see this effect in action!) A fluid 'opening/closing' animation is played when each button is moused over, to show the user that the link is clickable. Also, the colour palette of the menu bar was designed to ensure each section had a separate, memorable style.

I hope browsing this site will be an enjoyable, insightful experience—as fun to use as it was to make!
